3 Secrets Every Organized Family Keeps

Why do you and other families seem to have it all together while your own family struggles to balance everything? The truth is that some seemingly organized families might be less busy than ours. It turns out that they may know some family organization secrets.

Consider the three below tips:

1.  Each Person Needs Their Own Space

Designate a cubby in your home for each child to store their belongings; children will have a designated space throughout the house. If you're able, provide them with coat hooks or shelves where they can place shoes and bags without worrying about them getting mixed up, amongst other things!

Owning a mobile phone or device has become the norm for children in today's society. If you have young ones who are old enough, consider getting them their family caddy to store all of these phones! Labeling everything with names will provide some ownership over what is theirs (not just something shared).

2.  Command Central

Most families have a lot going on. Between work, school, extracurricular activities, and social obligations, it can be hard to keep track of everyone's schedules. That's where a family calendar comes in handy. By keeping track of all your family's appointments, events, and commitments in one central location, you can help to avoid conflicts and ensure that everyone is where they need to be when they need to be there.

In addition, a family calendar can also be a great organizing tool. By seeing everything that's coming up at a glance, you can better plan and prepare for upcoming events. As a result, a family calendar can help to make life a little less chaotic for the whole family.

Consider using some of the below options:
  • Use a large desktop calendar and hang it on the wall.
  • A chalkboard or whiteboard calendar
  • If your children are older, everyone can create a Google calendar, and they can be integrated into a central family calendar. For this to work, children must be online.
  • A large poster board calendar and color-coded post-its for each child and day.

    3.  Daily Structure

Some might ask, "what's the best way for my family and me to have more time together during a school week?" A lot of parents ask themselves.

Creating routines in your household could help you make better quality of life now while also setting up healthy habits tomorrow!

    Consider creating structures such as:

    • "wake-up times," bed-time, no electrons zone time (every day),
    • homework-specific times or TV schedules
    • chores days

These can be a starting point to get everyone on board, which helps maintain organization among everyone living in the home. Remember that not all households and family members are the same; we strongly suggest you ask everyone for their input. Remember you want them to be happier, less stressed, and enjoy the time spent they get to spend together.

It can be tough to organize your family, but hopefully, some tips and tricks we've shared will help you. And remember, it takes time to establish a new routine – don't get discouraged if things are a little chaotic at first. You can create a system that works for your whole family with patience and perseverance.
